GUAM UPDATE APRIL 2025

The Brantley's Journey To Service

I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
Genesis 9:13 NKJV

Hafa Adai from Guam! First, I want to apologize for not getting newsletters the past couple of months. Life has been crazy to say the least. Second, I want to thank everyone for their prayers over the past couple of months as we have said 'see ya later' to both of our kids.

Now, what has been happening in Guam. God has been so great. We have completed a discipleship class with several of the believers in the church. This resulted in amazing spiritual growth in youth and adults alike. We have seen a difference in people's willingness and eagerness to serve in the church and community. This has led to members stepping in to teach the small groups on Monday nights that had been led by our family. It has been such a blessing to see this happen. The church has also been blessed with two men of God that have been preaching occasionally giving Schuyler the opportunity to help at Agana Heights Baptist Church that is currently without a pastor. Please be in prayer that God's will would be done in that situation.

Agat Community Church continues to partner with Be Heartfelt to feed vulnerable children in the community. We are currently preparing 30 bags each week that the social workers send home with the kids to ensure they have food for the weekend.

I am still volunteering with Safe Haven Pregnancy Center. It is a faith based, non-profit that helps women by providing free pregnancy tests, pregnancy verification letters (that are needed to apply for public health resources like Medicaid, food stamps and housing), and education lessons to help with parenting. If they do their lessons, they earn points for free baby care products. It is very rewarding to spend time with these mommas and babies presenting the gospel and giving them the resources to break the cycle of poverty.

Community Clean-up

One thing we have noticed in Guam is the lack of completion of projects. These trees are by the school across the street from the church. They had been topped out, but the trunks had never been cut down. Schuyler and several of the men in the community worked together to cut them down and into manageable size pieces. They are called iron wood trees. The wood is very hard. It burns very hot and for a long time. Many families came and got wood as it was cut up for cooking and smoking meat. Schuyler was also able to cut a few larger pieces for some fisherman to use to clean the fish on. An unusable eye sore was turned into a functional product for the community. When all was said and done all of the wood was taken and used by the community!

Mini-Truck Ministry

The mini-truck is back in business. We had some boys from the local middle school Junior Honor Society approach us that needed community service hours. Schuyler was able to put them to work filling potholes in the village. During their time together Schuyler shared the gospel with them. I was blessed to hear one of them play the piano when they stopped for a lunch break at the church. One of the biggest blessings to come from this was that a couple of the boys kept coming back to do projects even after they had completed the required hours. It gave us more time to share Jesus with them. A couple of the boys are even going to take care of our fur babies when we come home on furlough this summer.

Off to Fort Sill, Oklahoma

Allie continued her island adventures by getting her scuba certification before leaving for the Army. On March 5th, we said "see you later" to our baby girl as she shipped out to Army basic training at Fort Sill, OK. Prior to her leaving, she had been leading the teen girl small group. Those girls adore her and look up to her. Ms. Brenda had them write encouragement notes with stickers and Bible verses to help Allie get through basic training. The girls each read their card and gave Allie a hug her last Monday with us. We have received one phone call telling us that she made it to Fort Sill. A couple of days later we received a bit longer call telling us that she was at reception and still had a couple of things left to do before going to her training unit. She said we should expect a call each Sunday (Monday morning our time in Guam). We all miss her like crazy, but we are so happy she is following her dreams. She is going to be going to the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA after she finishes basic training. The great thing about how God works, is we have a friend that we met in Guam that now works six months out of the year at DLI. He told us he would check in on her! We are eagerly awaiting her graduation date. We will be coming in to see her graduate, then begin our furlough travels. As soon as we have a mailing address, I will share for anyone that would like to drop her an encouraging word.

Jeremiah--our fly boy

Jeremiah left us in January to pursue his multi-engine rating. There were some delays and complications along the way, but he did it! He is currently on his way to Australia with his boss to pick up the plane they will be using in Pohnpei. It blows our minds that our 19 year old son is flying airplanes. Both kids are following their dreams. As a parent, when I told my kids, 'the sky's the limit', I never thought they would take it literally. Jeremiah will be living in Pohnpei and doing commuter flights between the FSM islands.

Island Family

We have been blessed by so many people in Guam, but none more than Brother Bob Murphy. The first picture is when we first arrived in Guam. The second picture was at the airport when we were saying our 'see ya laters' to Jeremiah. He then came to the airport to see Allie off too. He means so much to all of us, definitely family at this point.

Schuyler and I are learning how to live as a couple without kids again. It has definitely been an adjustment. It is so quiet without the teenage bickering. But, boy, do we miss them. Please keep us all in your prayers. We also ask that you begin praying for Agat Community Church now, as we prepare for furlough in 2025. We have already begun talking to the church and making plans. We pray that God will make it a smooth transition. We are planning on being in the states from mid-May to mid-August. Schuyler has already been in contact with many of you to schedule visits. It is physically impossible for us to see everyone. But, if you would like to see us, please reach out and we will check if we are able to accommodate.

We are so thankful to all who have continued to support us on this journey through deputation support, project funds or prayer support. We would not be able to do any of the work that has been done here without God blessing the work and people being willing to support and send us. We pray daily that we are constantly found doing God's will.

Please follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram. We love staying in touch with you all. If you have any prayer requests, please let us know. We would be honored to pray with you and for you.

Thank you again for your kind and loving support.

Thank you and God Bless,

Cathy, Schuyler, Jeremiah and Allie Brantley
