Ninety years ago a group of believers decided that a General Baptist Church needed to be established in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. So in January of 1927 the First General Baptist Church was founded. I have often wondered what their hopes and dreams for the church were, and how they would have imagined the church after ninety years.
The church has grown, preserved, and been an influence in our community for these past 90 years. We continue to reach out and to try and impact Cape Girardeau and the surrounding area for Jesus Christ and the Kingdom.
As we continue this intentional effort, it is helpful to remember that we are a part of something larger than ourselves. Jesus Christ began a good work when He began this church in 1927. He will continue that work now, and on into the future. We are a piece of that puzzle, and step in that journey. However, each of us is an important part of this effort and ministry.
The denominational motto "Doing together what we cannot do alone" is more than just a description of our denomination. It is a description of the church and its members. Together we are more, and are able to do more, than we are and can do alone. I am thankful for each and every family that is a part of First General and welcome you to be a part of it if you so decide.
Please take a look around our website, read about our faith, beliefs, see lists of our events, and announcements. If you would like to learn more please feel free to join us for Morning Worship one day, or call the office. I will look forward to answering questions you may have.
Yours in Christ,
Jim Rudolph
While the birth of Christ is life-changing, how do we respond? Often the tree comes down, decorations are put away, and we get back to “life as usual.” But Christ calls us to more. In this series we will be looking at how we are called to “Walk the Walk” of faith.
