Ninety years ago a group of believers decided that a General Baptist Church needed to be established in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. So in January of 1927 the First General Baptist Church was founded. I have often wondered what their hopes and dreams for the church were, and how they would have imagined the church after ninety years.

The church has grown, preserved, and been an influence in our community for these past 90 years. We continue to reach out and to try and impact Cape Girardeau and the surrounding area for Jesus Christ and the Kingdom.

As we continue this intentional effort, it is helpful to remember that we are a part of something larger than ourselves. Jesus Christ began a good work when He began this church in 1927. He will continue that work now, and on into the future. We are a piece of that puzzle, and step in that journey. However, each of us is an important part of this effort and ministry.

The denominational motto "Doing together what we cannot do alone" is more than just a description of our denomination. It is a description of the church and its members. Together we are more, and are able to do more, than we are and can do alone. We are thankful for each and every family that is a part of First General and welcome you to be a part of it if you so decide.

Please take a look around our website, read about our faith, beliefs, see lists of our events, and announcements. If you would like to learn more please feel free to join us for Morning Worship one day, or call the office. We look forward to answering questions you may have.

These are very difficult times for everyone, but based on warnings from the National Center for Disease Control and others, we have decided to cancel all services and activities for the rest of March. This decision begins immediately and will be reevaluated for the month of April.

Our sole concern is for the overall safety of our church family. We are sorry if you find this decision upsetting, but unusual times require unusual measures. During these days, we will need to encourage and help each other. We hope you will pray for us and for people everywhere.

Please check on one another and those outside God's family of believers.  And feel free to contact us with any questions or needs.  Church (573) 334-2234

During these days, put modern media to good use by watching/listening to good Christian music or excellent Bible preaching/teaching. Don't starve your soul; feast upon God's Word.

"You will keep in perfect pease those whose minds are stayed on you, because they trust in you." Isaiah 26:3
