Honduras Update Feb 2025

Honduras Update

It was great to spend some time with our missionaries in Honduras recently.  We meet for our annual field council meeting each January or February and catch up with what God is doing through General Baptist Ministries in Honduras.  Rodney and Teresa Walls, Christina Massey, Robin Lowery, Jared Green, Jim Pratt, and I were in attendance this year.

Faith Home presently has 37 children with one baby, 6 months old, eight girls aged 3-11, 14 boys aged 3-11, eight girls aged 12-17, and six boys aged 12-17.  One teenager is in the reintegration program preparing for life beyond Faith Home.   Including the children presently at Faith Home, we have been blessed to touch the lives of 173 children through this incredible ministry.  Of these, 68 transitioned out at 18 (through the reintegration program), and 68 were eventually returned to their families before turning 18 (foster care).  There are seven sets of house parents and nine other staff members, including a medical doctor and a psychologist.

Robin Lowery assists the children with their learning needs and would greatly appreciate some folks coming down for a couple of weeks or more to work with the children in developing their English language skills.

It is incredible to see what God continues to do through the work of Faith Home Honduras.

Dr. Rodney Walls, Church Development, shared that the churches in Honduras have a membership of 800 and that they reported 44 conversions and 34 baptisms.  One new property has been added to the La Lima area, and we are grateful for a gift from the Sunnyvale Church near Malden, MO, which made that possible.

General Baptist Ministries also assisted with a water well project in the El Barro community surrounding Faith Home.  It was 30 years ago that we started sending teams to Honduras to build Faith Home, and much of the early work on the campus was completed with water from our neighbors in El Barro.  A few years ago, their well pretty much gave up, leaving the community with only occasional water.  It just didn’t seem right that the folks who have been so generous to us with their water now had little.  So General Baptists partnered with El Barro to complete a significant well project that hopefully will supply El Barro with water for years to come.

Teresa Walls and Dr. Sharon Castro (who also works with Faith Home) have had a very busy year in the medical clinic. The on-campus and mobile clinics (thank you, Relevant Church) provided medical care to 1,356 people in 2024.  They also hosted a number of medical teams that treated 2,326 people (including 370 pulled teeth)!

Just prior to our visit, a Mission One team had been in Honduras to assist with a Youth Conference within attendance, over 200 youth  as well as pastors and sponsors.  The event was a great success with several youth professing faith in Christ.  With three teams already in Honduras in 2025, it was a great start to the 30th year of Mission One teams visiting Honduras!
