Welcome Visitor,

Ninety years ago a group of believers decided that a General Baptist Church needed to be established in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. So in January of 1927 the First General Baptist Church was founded. I have often wondered what their hopes and dreams for the church were, and how they would have imagined the church after ninety years.

The church has grown, preserved, and been an influence in our community for these past 90 years. We continue to reach out and to try and impact Cape Giradeau and the surrounding area for Jesus Christ and the Kingdom.

As we continue this intentional effort, it is helpful to remember that we are a part of something larger than ourselves. Jesus Christ began a good work when He began this churhc in 1927. He will continue that work now, and on into the future. We are a piece of that puzzle, and step in that journey. However, each of us is an important part of this effort and ministry.

The denominational motto "Doing togehter what we cannot do alone" is more than just a description of our denomination. It is a description of the church and its members. Together we are more, and are able to do more, than we are and can do alone. I am thankful for each and every family that is apart of First General and welcome you to be apart of it if you so decide.

Please take a look around our website, read about our faith, beliefs, see lists of our events, and announcements. If you would like to learn more please feel free to join us for Morning Worship one day, or call the ofifce. I will look forward to answering questions you may have.

Yours in Christ,

Jim Rudolph

Season of Advent

"Let all the earth worship you, and sing praises to you."

Through the month of December Pastor Rudolph sermons will focus on Hope, Peace, Joy & Love. The first week of Advent is about hope, the second Peace, the third Joy, and finally Love. Advent comes from the Latin word "aventus" which means coming. This time is well spent for us Christians by preparing ourselves on the focus of the coming of our savior. Remember he became flesh like us, to redeem us, show us what love is, model holiness, and to partake in his divine nature.

Annual Christmas Program

The Annual Christmas Program will be Sunday evening at 6:00 pm, December 16th. You will enjoy the music from our Praise Team as well as special solo songs from a few members and guests. The children will perform in a skit titled, “Twas the Night Before Christmas” as well as a skit and reading from our JOY (Just Older Youth) group! Come join us for the fun!
